Heading out on the water always comes with risks.
Everyone knows the basics of water safety from
checking weather conditions before you head out
to always packing a life jacket, but there is a
lot more you can do to ensure you're always in
the clear when you take the boat out. It's
crucial that you have a working bilge or marine
water pump to suit your vessel before you leave
the shore. In case something does go wrong,
you'll be fully equipped to deal with the
situation. Consider a few of these different
aspects of a marine pump and what you'll need to
look for when you make a purchase. Size of Your
Boat The most obvious thing that will help
decide on what Mercruiser water pumps you need is
the size of your boat. Usually a boat that is
large enough to head out into deep waters will
come with a standard pump to suit, but in case
you are buying used or are just unsure, it's good
to consult with a dealer about your needs in
terms of size. Electric vs. Manual Suitable for
large boats, electric marine pumps take all the
effort and stress out of a dangerous situation
through sheer efficiency. It's almost essential
that you have an OMC Cobra Outdrive onboard if
you're operating a larger boat. Manual pumps are
usually a good idea for a backup or, if you have
a kayak or canoe, in case of capsize on a single
or dual person vessel.
3
Efficiency Talk with your dealer about the GPH
or litres per minute that the pump operates at
and make sure it's enough for your boat.
Requirements are different for every vessel and
the efficiency of each pump varies depending on
the brand and model that you choose. Be safe on
your boat and don't leave shore without a marine
pump and backup to protect yourself and any
passengers that you're carrying with you.
