About Mehta Spine
  • Mehta Spine represents a state of the art,
evidence based practice in the treatment of
    spinal problems.
  • Our values encompass safety, transparency, high
quality of care and documentation of outcomes of
the treatment. Choosing the right surgeon is the
single most important step in the quest for
successful treatment. Though not everyone needs
surgery, we believe that an understanding of the
problem helps us in individualising the
    treatment.
  • Discussions around the natural history of the
condition and obtaining the correct scans leads
to the appreciation of the available treatment
options. This provides a foundation of a good
    outcome.
  • Mr Jwalant S Mehta is a consultant spinal surgeon
specialising in spinal deformity corrections and
treatment of all spinal conditions. His is based
in Birmingham at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital
    and the Birmingham Childrens Hospital.
Additionally, he has practising privileges with
    the BMI and Spire group

Congenital scoliosis (VEPTR)
  • Some children are born with a part of the spine
either not being formed fully or not being
    segmented.
  • This can sometimes be seen in the scans during
    late pregnancy.
  • However, it is usually after birth that we need
to assess the extent of the problem by way of
a full Spine CT scan and an MRI.

Congenital scoliosis (VEPTR)
  • This requires a general anaesthesia. The children
are not born with a spinal deformity. They could
develop a deformity due to asymmetric growth.
  • The treatment options are individualised based on
the scan findings. Some are observed through the
growth years and some may need surgery at a very
    young age.
