Cleaning and Maintaining Laboratory Apparatus

  • Visit Us www.jaincolab.com

2
How To do It ?
  • Clean the equipment thoroughly with soap and
water for basic cleaning. You may need to use a
wire brush to remove some residue
  • Boil purified water in the lab equipment to
remove caked-on material like solidified agar or
    other gelatin-like products.
  • Rinse with acetone to remove traces of organic
    materials including soap residue

3
  • Rinse with ethanol to sterilize any lab equipment
that must have all bacteria and other
    microorganisms removed before use.
  • Rinse with an RNAse remover, such as RNAse
Displace, if the equipment will be used in any
DNA research, since RNAse can destroy your
    experiments

4
Need for Cleaning and Maintaining Laboratory
Apparatus
  • Dirty apparatus can cause the most carefully
executed experiments to yield inaccurate results.
  • If the apparatus like glassware, used for
measuring liquids is polluted with grease or
other materials, it can prevent the glass from
    being wetted uniformly.

5
  • it becomes imperative to keep the laboratory
apparatus neat and clean, free of any bacteria or
    any grease.
  • You should always wash your apparatus
immediately after use. Soak the apparatus in
water if you cant wash them immediately so as to
remove the residue easily and avoid it to stick
    to the labware.
  • You can use soap, cleaning powder, or detergent
to wash the glass labware. For sternly dirty
glassware, you can use cleaning powder with
slight coarse action to get good cleaning
    outcomes.
