Want to configure Linksys RE6500 Wireless
extender? Dont worry, you can configure it in
two ways. It includes WPS setup and Embedded
setup wizard. If your router supports WPS, then
you can use this method. Today, in this post, we
are going to discuss steps to setup RE6500 on
your network using embedded setup method.

You must have following things in your hand
before setting up RE6500.

• The wireless network name and the passkey for
  your Wi-Fi network.

Step 1 After unpacking the device from the box,
you need to connect the antenna to the top of the
device. After connecting the antenna, connect the
power cable to the RE6500.

Step2 You must place the extender midway between
the area with weak wireless signal and the
router. Your device must be capable of receiving
a min of 50 signal from the existing Wi-Fi
network at that place. Step3 Wait till the light
on the top turns solid.

Step4 Connect your device like smartphone,
tablet or computer to the range extender via Mac
address or via range extender SSID set by default.

Note If you dont find Linksys device in the
list of available networks, then bring the
extender closer to the network receiving area. If
the network is still not received by it, then
reset extender by pressing the reset button for
at least 5 seconds from the bottom of it.

Wired setup To connect via Ethernet, connect one
end of this cable to RE6500 and other to your
computer. Your computer must not be connected to
wireless network. Step 5 Launch a browser on
your computer and open the Linksys range extender
setup page. For this, you have to enter
192.168.1.1 as default address in the address bar.

Quick tips If you dont know the exact URL of
your range extender, then the default address is
192.168.1.1. This address will only work if your
device is not connected to the network. Once it
gets connected, it will automatically obtain an
IP address from the network servers.

Step 6 Click to start the setup wizard. Step 7
Click on the box given next to the statement
which says, License agreement. When you confirm
this box then it means you have agreed to the
terms and conditions of the range extender.

Step 8 You will be prompted to select network.
In case of dual-band network, an SSID of both the
bands will appear on the screen. If you dont
find any network, then refresh the network list.

Step 9 A Spot finder page will appear on the
screen. This will let you check the signal
strength received on your range extender from the
router. If the signal strength is poor, move the
router closer to range extender otherwise, click
to connect. Step 10 Enter Wi-Fi password in step
10 and click to proceed.

Step 11 You are now required to configure the
extended network. If you are using 2.5 GHz band,
the name will automatically get created according
to 2.4 GHz band. If you are using 5 GHz band,
then SSID name will set accordingly. You can
change the SSID name anytime.

Click to finish setup. Step 12 You are now
required to set a strong password for your range
extender. If you dont want any security, then
you can leave this step and click to move
forward. In this manner, your extender will get
configured on existing wireless network. For any
