Importance of digital signage in retail Today,
we are living in a digital world. We are
constantly bombarded with different types of
advertisements. Generally, these advertising
messages do not look appealing because of the way
in which they are communicated. Traditional
mediums like print and outdoor media look dull
and boring. People are less interested in old
fashion posters and banners. Advertising done
through digital signages is quite a rage among
the marketers. Marketers have realized the fact
that static images have limited scope of
grabbing attention and so they should
aggressively promote the product through new
marketing mediums. So digital signages in retail
shops are extensively used for more brand
visibility. Digital signages is the future of
advertising. It is a cost-effective and efficient
advertising medium. Digital signages look
visually appealing. They are versatile in the
sense, you cant just show your product on the
signage but can make it alive by playing video
content, audio message etc. It is interactive and
can engage the target audience. Digital signages
help in making the brand more attractive. Also
since this medium is eye-catching people will
hardly miss the content displayed on the signage.
The message will be effectively passed on the
target customer. Small retail shops with
attractive display signages stand out from the
rest of the shops in the market. Display signages
help in influencing purchases. For eg when you
have an attractive signage of a product placed
at the counter, people feel like buying it. It
helps in reinforcing the brand message. People
are able to connect strongly with the digital
medium. Digital signages are of different types.
Some are static signages which displays just a
single piece of information. Then there are
LCDs, LEDs through which people get to see
audio and moving visual content. Then there are
touch kiosks. People can touch the kiosks and
make purchases. Touch screen kiosks can be used
for other purposes like providing product
information, wayfinding, price checking units
etc. They help in reducing the time of the shop
owners which otherwise would have been spent in
attending the customers for above
purpose. Retailers with multiple shops in
different places have got the advantage of
advertising the product simultaneously through a
common central server. Content generation and
distribution is relatively easy in digital
signages as compared to other mediums. Retailers
do not have to spend in hiring a graphic
designer, creating multiple static images and
content etc. They get the flexibility to show
content in any format. It can be shown as
PowerPoint slides or as a short video or simply
an audio message. Moreover the content be
changed within few days or even hours. Digital
signages have provided level-playing field for
small retailers to compete with big
brands. Digital signages are extensively used in
developed countries for promotion and other
marketing activities. In India also this medium
is popular in urban areas. Brand managers of big
companies like to advertise their products
through digital signages placed in thousands of
retail shops. It is found to be a cheaper method
to advertise product which guarantees good
returns.
