About Us

• Riyaaz Qawwali is an ensemble that represents
  the unique diversity and plurality of South
  Asia. The ensembles musicians, who are settled
  in the United States, hail from India, Pakistan,
  Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and also represent
  multiple religious and spiritual backgrounds.
  Trained in eastern and western classical music,
  the members have been professionally performing
  qawwali for the past eleven years. With
  conservative growth and heightened attention to
  quality, Riyaaz Qawwali has performed across the
  continental U.S., as well as internationally in
  Panama.
• Riyaaz Qawwalis mission is to expose qawwali to
  new audiences, while still paying homage to
  traditional qawwali that has been in existence
  for 700 years. The ensemble wants to expand the
  reach of the genre to new stages and people of
  other faiths and traditions.

Riyaaz Qawwali's Albums

• Riyaaz Qawwalis 2nd CD features ghazals that
  are composed and performed in qawwali style. The
  selected pieces range from contemporary to
  classic poets.

• Kashti was the debut album of the Riyaaz Qawwali
  ensemble and was released in June 2013 and was
  commercially made available in the Spring of
  2014.

Gala Entertainment
Riyaaz Qawwali is a Gala Entertainment Qawwali
group based in Austin, Texas. Riyaaz Qawwali is
modernizing the genre for today's audience, while
staying true to the ethos of Qawwali. The
founding members of Riyaaz Qawwali chose the
qawwali genre of music because it houses unique
musical elements in its repertoire that are not
found in any other form of South Asian music.
Riyaaz Qawwali combines this with poetry from
famous South Asian poets of multiple linguistic
and religious backgrounds to create a universal
message of oneness (Riyaaz Qawwali incorporates
works from poetic giants like Mirza Ghalib, Amir
Khusrow, Bulleh Shah, Mir Taqi Mir, Sant Kabir
and Guru Nanak, and in doing so, hopes to expose
these poets works to new audiences and younger
generations). Riyaaz Qawwali also uses numerous
languages to represent the linguistic and
cultural diversity that exists in South Asia.
These languages include Urdu, Punjabi,
Persian, Gujarati, and Hindi.

The Experience

• The Experience, a short TV series, aims to
   showcase South Asian art being produced outside
  of the Indian subcontinent, presented on a major
  video hub (Youtube/Vimeo/Hulu or
  PBS/Smithsonian/National Geographic). This
  collaborative series aims to highlight different
  art mediums and encourage upcoming artists, and
  challenge the normal and accepted ways art is
  currently viewed/consumed. It focuses on
  highlighting a lesser known face of South Asia,
  via qawwali and other traditional/folk arts. 
• The interfaith philosophies presented in Qawwali,
  or the amalgamation of Hindu and Muslim ideas in
  the Kathak, or the classic bandhishes
• The initiation is currently slated for Spring
  2017, with hopes to have it air late 2017 or
  Spring 2018.

Interfaith USA

• Qawwali is a venerable yet refreshing musical
  tradition that dates back to the late 13th
  century. With the mix of South Asian and the
  Western music, Riyaaz Qawwali has been found as
  an Interfaith in USA.
• As part of the festival, we performed for 400
  elementary kids, who enthusiastically clapped
  with us for our short 50-minute performance. The
  heartfelt and rewarding experience was not the
  only interaction we had with young kids, where we
  took this music to schools

Indian Semi Classical

• Listen to Indian Semi Classical music such as
  Qawwali, Ghazal, Bhajan, Sufi songs etc. from
  Riyaaz Qawwali Group. They have organized many
  classical music events in different countries.

• For 2018 concerts and/or availability, please
  reach out to us via the contact page. For safety
  reasons, we are not publicly updating our
  schedule. However, we are excited to be
  performing across the US and Europe in 2018!
