1
Commonly Overlooked Car Maintenance Items
2
The best way to maintain your car is to follow
the manufacturer recommended service schedule,
however, there are people who are complacent in
adhering to the schedule.
3
Most of them site the reason of high maintenance
cost to of sticking to the manufacturer suggested
schedule as the reason behind skipping it.
4
Usually, when people think of routine maintenance
of their car, the only thing that comes to their
mind is oil changes and filter cleaning.
5
However, when you resort to this method many
important components of your car will never get
serviced. Here are the commonly overlooked
maintenance parts.
6
Brake fluid flush
7
The brake fluid is hygroscopic by nature which
means that it will attract and absorb moisture
which results in a lower boiling point of brake
fluid and can cause rusting of the hydraulic
brake system.
8
Most of the time car manufacturers will specify
the time for brake fluid flush, however, you can
also do it after three years or 36,000 miles
whichever comes first.
9
Automatic transmission fluid flush
10
Most of time it is found that the car owners
think that the transmission fluid is for the
lifetime and it doesn't need any replacement.
11
However, if you are not changing your
transmission fluid, then there are increased
chances of facing transmission failure.
12
The modern transmissions work very hard than
their predecessors and within tighter engine
compartments with less ventilation and you must
change it after every 60,000 miles.
13
Coolant flush
14
The coolant is also one of the most important
fluid in your car as it helps in preventing the
engine from overheating.
15
Consequently, the coolant degrades over time
with normal use and the pH of the coolant becomes
less than ideal which can damage parts of the
engine and the cooling system.
16
It is best to change the coolant after every
40,000 to 60,000 miles as this will keep the
coolant's pH level at a proper balance which will
keep your cooling system healthy.
17
Valve adjustments
18
In spite of most new cars using automatically
adjusting hydraulic valve lifters, there are
still a large number of cars that use mechanical
valve lifters.
19
However, these lifters require occasional
clearance checks and adjustments as a too tight
valve or too loose can cause reduced power
efficiency.
20
Conclusion
21
The above-mentioned parts of your car play a
significant role in its performance and also
provide you with a comfortable ride.
22
Whenever, you experience any issues with your
car, then contact a mechanic to fix the issue
immediately.
