5 Popular Stone Options For Kitchen Slabs
2
Are you in the midst of a kitchen remodel and are
thinking about adding new countertops? There are
plenty of natural stone options for your kitchen
slab each with its own benefits and drawbacks.
At Elegant Natural Stone, we recommend
researching your stone options thoroughly by
visiting an Indian natural stones slabs exporter.
3
Take into account how you would generally use
your slab. Would you perform food prep on it or
use it as an extra dining space? Are you likely
to place hot prepared food items on it or do you
need a slab primarily for display purposes?
Answers to such questions will determine which
type of natural stone will be most suitable for
your home.
Listed below, are five of the most popular types
of natural stone options for your kitchen
countertop
4
Granite
Granite is one of the leading choices of natural
stone for most homeowners. Its considered a
luxury stone which has gained immense popularity
in the last decade. Granite countertops come in a
wide assortment of colors such as brown and red
but the most preferred ones are black flecked
with white, resembling salt and pepper. In a
lighter colored Indian Granite Slabs, you will
notice natural veins and variegated patterns.
When granite is sourced it is first cut then
polished. A sealant will also be applied to
minimize staining and porosity. It needs
resealing every ten years. Granite can last for a
lifetime so its definitely a worthy investment.
5
Marble
Marble is an old favorite that continues to shine
in homes. It has been used for centuries in
homes. Once installed, marble develops a natural
discoloration which lends its timeless appeal.
However, since it is highly porous it must be
sealed correctly and consistently. Marble has a
reputation for wearing the pat. This means every
coffee spill, sauce stain and cup mark left on it
will be left behind. Acidic ingredients in
particular like tomato juice, vinegar and wine
can discolor your marble. Nevertheless, this
doesnt mean you shouldnt use marble but learn
what its best suited for. If youre an avid
baker, then a marble slab is perfect because its
naturally cool surface is ideal for rolling,
kneading and rolling dough.
6
Soapstone
Soapstone is a natural stone that is non-porous.
Once sourced and cut, a treatment of mineral oil
is applied to help it develop a darker shade.
Even though this stone is not porous, it still
requires sealing, otherwise it will develop
scratches.
Soapstone has fewer color choices compared to
other stones. However these are quite stunning
and include various shades of grey, green and
blue. Sometimes flecks of quartz are added to
create subtle veining.
7
Quartzite
This is not the same as quartz. It is a natural
stone whereas the latter is simply an industry
term for quartz which is crushed with resin to
form sheets. Quartzite is an extremely durable
material. Its appearance is stark white with
heavy white and grey veining. It doesnt etch or
stain easily but its capable of resisting chips
and scratches.
8
Slatestone
Slatestone is another resilient natural stone. It
doesnt deface when it comes into contact with
heat. Nor does it chip or scratch when tomato
juice, vinegar or wine spills on its surface. Its
colors are more subtle than granite. Slate is
available in several shades of brown, black and
grey. If youre on a budget, then slate is the
way to go.
