Title: Introduction of Tenses

1
Introduction of Tenses
2
What are the tenses in English?
  • In English, there are three main tenses the
present, the past, and the future
  • The present. The present tense (e.g. I am, she
works, we swim, they believe) is also called the
    present simple or simple present
  • The past
  • The future
  • Continuous and perfect tenses
  • Continuous
  • Perfect
  • Perfect continuous

3
What are tenses examples?
  • There are three major tenses in English. These
include past, present, and future. Each of these
tenses can explain an event that occurred in the
past, an event that occurs in the present, or an
event that will occur in the future. Example of
Past, Present, and Future Tenses I danced.

4
How many tenses are there in English?
  • There are three English tenses past, present,
and future. But, the three can be categorized
based on their function. I lump the future in
with the simple present and present progressive,
    so I get 12 categories.

5
Do verb tenses?
  • The main verb (live in the example above) is in
its base form (of the infinitive). The auxiliary
DID shows that the question is in the past tense.
NOTICE The only difference between a question in
the present tense and a question in the past
tense is the change in the auxiliary verb.

6
Are tenses part of grammar?
  • In grammar, tense is a category that expresses
time reference with reference to the moment of
speaking. Tenses are usually manifested by the
use of specific forms of verbs, particularly in
their conjugation patterns. Basic tenses found in
many languages include the past, present, and
    future.
