What Are The Cerebral Hemispheres? And Why Are
They Important?
For a long time, many people believed that human
beings only use 10 of their brain capacity.
However, research has concluded that this notion
is a myth. With that said, you actually are able

the brain and how the cerebral hemispheres
function. In this article, we will explore what a
cerebral hemisphere is, where it is located, and
what are specific functions of each part of the

The brain is the epicenter of the nervous system
which is found inside the skull. The biggest
part of the brain is located on the top of the
head called the Cerebrum. The cerebrum is
divided into two parts which are called cerebral
hemispheres. What is a hemisphere definition? A
hemisphere is a half of a sphere. Everyones
brain has two of them where each hemisphere is
controlling the opposite side of the body. The
right hemisphere of the cerebrum controls the
functions on the left side of the body and the
left hemisphere controls the right side.
Cerebral hemispheres are crucial for our
wellbeing as they support cognitive functions
and store memories.
Where Are the Cerebral Hemispheres Located?

As mentioned before, two cerebral hemispheres
make up the cerebrum which is located on top of
the head. This is the biggest part of the brain,
taking up to 2/3 of the whole brain. Cerebra
hemispheres undergone the greatest changes
throughout human evolution. Today cerebral
hemispheres are located on the left and right
side of the brain stem, completely covering its
front part. What Are the Specific Functions of
Each Cerebral Hemisphere?
Each of the two halves of your brain has its
functions in what experts refer to as
lateralization. The right cerebral hemisphere
helps with vision independence, sense of touch,
and object recognition. The left cerebral
hemisphere assists in language, logical
reasoning, and comprehension. The hemispheres
communicate through the wide flat bundle of
neural fibers called corpus callosum. At the
first sight its pretty obvious that each
cerebral hemisphere hemispheres has its dominant
functions. Left hemispheres being responsible
for speech, logical reasoning and language
processing and comprehension. And right
responsible for spacial tasks identifying
objects and spaces with any other senses apart
from vision. Thats probably why so many people
believe they are left or right brained. Even
though each of the hemispheres has some dominant
functions, both of them are directly involved in
most of the bodily processes.

What Are the Major Regions of The Cerebral
Hemispheres?

• Each of the hemispheres has four lobes frontal,
  parietal, temporal, and occipital. Here are the
  functions of the different lobes
• Frontal lobe
• This region of the brain controls
• Judgment, problem-solving, and planning
• Behavior, personality, and emotions
• Body movements
• Speech, writing, and speaking
• Concentration, self-awareness, and intelligence

• Occipital lobe
• It has one sole purpose, interpreting vision and
  helps you identify color, movement, and light.

• This region of the cerebral hemisphere is
  responsible for
• Interpreting language and words
• Spatial and visual perception
• The sense of touch, temperature, and pain
• Interpreting signals from visual, motor, hearing,
  memory, and sensory
• Temporal lobe
• This part of the cerebral hemisphere is
  responsible for
• Understanding language
• Hearing
• Memory
• Sequencing and organization
