Title: Wired and Wireless Internet

1
Wired Vs. Wireless Internet
2
Introduction
  • There are a number of reasons to use the Internet
in this Modern era. People use the internet to
communicate with each other, to work anytime and
anywhere, for doing online Bank transaction to
stay away from bank queue etc.
  • For this, we need a Reliable Internet Connection
in our home or office. Internet Connection can be
of two types. It may Wired Internet Connection or
It may be Wireless Connection of Internet.
  • Sometimes, Large Businesses requires both wired
and wireless connection to meet their business
    requirements.

3
Why Wired ?
  • Security is a great factor in Wired Internet. As
Wired Networks are connected by physically
plugging in a cable from one system to another,
so it is much more difficult to access without
authentication. It is perfect for small network
connections at the office or home.
  • Wired Connection brings with them a reliable
connection which is unaffected by the
environment. As these networks are closed off and
do not travel over the air, no fluctuations in
    speed.
  • The speed of the wired networks is slightly
faster than the wireless networks because of less
    interference in connection.
  • Wired Internet Connection is easy to set-up. Just
plug in the cable and you are ready to use the
    Internet.

Why not wired?
  • For Wired Connection need more desktop space as
it require wires , cables and multiple components
for connection. Installation process can be
lengthy and complex for large organization as you
connect each and every device to the network.
  • If a wired network requires a server, maintenance
may be expensive. Also, you have to pay for IT
    professionals to maintenance and security.
  • If you are using Wired Connection in home then
you are restricted for usage. i.e. you cannot
access the Internet outside the home.
  • Wired networks can be inflexible in terms of
mobility.  If you want to use your device in a
different location then it is necessary to use
extra cables and switches to connect a device to
    the network.

5
Why Wireless?
  • The Main advantage of Wireless network is that
the user can move around freely within the area.
They can connect with the Internet with their
    handheld device, laptops etc.
  • Wireless Network has VOIP Facility. It is a phone
service that uses an internet which is very
    reasonable to compare traditional telephone
services. If you have an internet connection, you
can make VoIP calls at any location.
  • With Wireless Network, Instant transfer of
information to social media is made much easier.
In hotel, Clicking pictures of food and uploading
it on Facebook is done much quicker with wireless
    technology.
  • Mobility is a great advantage in a wireless
network, especially for businesses. It allows you
to attend the meetings wherever you are, whether
in a meeting room or outside.

6
Why not Wireless?
  • In wireless networks, a network is visible to all
devices so your connection may be affected. There
are more chances of interference by other
    wireless device in connection.
  • Signals are transmitted through the air it is the
less secure type of connection. Information is
also less secure and it can be easier to hack
    into.
  • Speed for file sharing are generally slower and
sometime it vary according to your location. The
connection away from the router becomes worse,
which can be a problem in a larger building or
    location.
  • Installing a wireless network can sometimes be
difficult for people who do not have a computer
    experience.

Comparison
Category Wired Internet Connection Wireless Internet Connection
Security Wired is always secure connection Less Secure connection than wired. Easier to access the info and bandwidth.
Connection Speed Faster Slower than wired.
Components Lots of cables and ports needed for connection Less cable needed and uncomplicated network.
User access Limited as it is connected to port Can access the network from anywhere within range.
File Sharing Less Convenient but transfer speed is faster than wireless. Easy to share but transfer speed is slower than wired.
