3Audiometry Test
An audiometry exam tests how well your hearing
functions. It tests both the intensity and the
tone of sounds, balance issues, and other
issues related to the function of the inner
ear. A doctor who specializes in diagnosing and
treating hearing loss
called an audiologist administers
the test.
4Otoacoustic Emissions Test(OAE)
- The OAE test is often part of a newborn hearing
screening program. - The OAE test is used to find out how well your
inner ear, or cochlea, works. - It measures otoacoustic emissions, or OAEs. These
are sounds given off by the inner ear when
responding to a sound. - This test can also show if there is a blockage in
your outer or middle ear.
5Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR)
- Auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing is
the best test available for newborns and
infants up to 6 months of age that can
provide information about the softest level of
sound the ear can hear. - This test can be conducted in a few minutes.
This test is conducted on children or others
who cannot complete a typical hearing screening.
6 Pure-Tone Test
- Pure-tone audiometry is a behavioral test used to
measure hearing sensitivity. This measure
involves the peripheral and central auditory
systems. - Pure-tone thresholds (PTTs) indicate the softest
sound audible to an individual at least 50 of
the time. Hearing sensitivity is plotted on an
audiogram, which is a graph displaying intensity
as a function of frequency.
7 Bone Conduction
- Pure-tone audiometry is a behavioral test used to
measure hearing sensitivity. This measure
involves the peripheral and central auditory
systems. - Pure-tone thresholds (PTTs) indicate the softest
sound audible to an individual at least 50 of
the time. Hearing sensitivity is plotted on an
audiogram, which is a graph displaying intensity
as a function of frequency.
