Primary producers
  • Primary producers convert an abiotic source of
energy (e.g. light) into energy stored in organic
compounds, which can be used by other organisms
    (e.g. heterotrophs)
  • The primary producers can convert the energy in
the light (phototroph and photoautotroph) or the
    energy in inorganic chemical compounds
    (chemolithotrophs) to build organic molecules,
which is usually accumulated in the form
of biomass and will be used as carbon and energy
    source by other organisms

Primary consumers
  • A primary consumer is an organism that feeds on
    primary producers.
  • Primary consumers are those members of a food
chain that eat producers or plants.
  •  Primary consumers are always herbivores, or
organisms that only eat autotrophic plants
  • Level 2 on Pyramid.

Examples

Secondary consumers
  • Secondary consumers are organisms that eat
    primary consumers for energy.
  • Secondary Consumers are always Carnivorous.
  • Level 3 on Pyramid.

Tertiary consumers/ apex predators
  • A tertiary consumer is an animal that obtains its
nutrition by eating primary consumers and
    secondary consumers
  • Usually tertiary consumers are carnivorous
predators, although they may also be omnivores,
which are animals that feed on both meat and
    plant material
  • Level 4 on Pyramid.

decomposers
  • An organism, especially a soil bacterium, fungus,
or invertebrate, that decomposes organic material.
