Importance of Having a Balanced Swimming Pool

Description:

You should take proper care of a swimming pool and especially maintain the balance of the water. The balance of the water depends on different constituents such as total alkalinity, pH, calcium hardness, stabilizer, and total dissolved solids. Title: Importance of Having a Balanced Swimming Pool

1
Importance of Having a Balanced Swimming Pool
2
A balanced swimming pool means keeping the
following water components within their proper
levels.
  • Total alkalinity
  • pH
  • Calcium hardness
  • Stabilizer
  • Total dissolved solids

3
These components help the sanitizer to work more
effectively and maintain the correct balance of
the pool water.
4
Both sanitizing and balancing are equally
important for having a healthy pool in your home.
5
Total alkalinity is the measurement of all
carbonates, bicarbonates, hydroxides and other
alkaline substances present in the water.
TOTAL ALKALINITY
A balanced pool must have a total alkalinity
level of 100 ppm. Low alkaline water leads to low
pH and high alkaline level leads to high pH.
6
The pH is the measurement of the degree of acidic
or basic nature of your pool water and pH
measuring 7 is regarded as neutral.
pH
When the pH reading is below, it is defined as
acidic and when the pH is above 7, then it said
to be basic or alkaline.
7
The appropriate range for calcium hardness level
is 200 to 400 ppm. If there is a decrease in the
calcium level, then the pool surface will begin
to erode.
CALCIUM HARDNESS
Hardness can be reduced by adding water having
a lower calcium hardness to the pool and
increased by the addition of calcium chloride.
8
The stabilizer is an important part of your pool
as it helps to retain chlorine for a longer
period of time.
STABILIZER
Generally, a stabilizer is added to some types
of chlorine to protect it from breaking down due
to the harmful effects of UV rays.
9
The presence of minerals in a pool makes it hard
for chemicals to perform their work and increase
the chance to have stains.
TOTAL DISSOLVED SOLIDS
So, it is required to regularly check the amount
of total dissolved solids and maintain a balance
in the pool.
10
IMPORTANCE OF WATER BALANCE
11
In case of a chemically balanced pool, the
growth of these pathogens is restricted and
swimmers get a safe pool.
12
When the pool water is imbalanced, there is more
chance that the pool and its equipment will get
damaged.
13
As swimming in a chemically imbalanced pool can
lead to irritation of eyes and skin, more
attention should be given towards the balance of
the water.
