Technology has been one of the most helpful
assets of mankind. Because of technology we are
now able to do so many tasks at ease and also be
more productive. For example, we are now able to
do so many things because of the computer. There
is not one office that doesnt have a computer.
Just like that, there are so many other
technological developments that we do not know
about. Optical technology is one of those
technologies that have contributed greatly to the
technological world but most of us do not have a
single clue about it. There have been so many
advancements of the optical technology that we
are not even aware of, from the remote that
controls the TV to the computer mouse, everything
is made of optical technology. Optic fibers aka
optical technology is the wire that connects the
mouse to the computer. It may not seem that big
of a deal but it has totally changed rate of
productivity, performance, security and many
other things. Only because of fiber optic
technology you are able to connect with your long
distance family. Not only in telecommunication
but fiber cables are also used in many important
fields including the medical field, military, and
aerospace department, internet and cable TV
connection and in computer networking. But
before fiber optic cables there were copper or
metal wires, so why optic cables are so much
important? There are so many answers of this one
question Optic cables are made out of
glass or plastic threads and that is it is able
to use light as a medium of transmitting
information. And that is why these cables are so
fast to send signals from one point to another.

Fiber optic cables are much lighter than
copper wires, that is why they are easy to
install and carry. Fiber optic cable has
greater bandwidth and that is why the data can be
transmitted to a wider range of area and can
carry more data at once. Only one whole fiber
cable can carry several million calls in them,
25,000 calls in each of the thread. Because
optic cables have good bandwidth power that is
why one cable can carry multiple types of data
all at once. One cable is sufficient enough to
carry video call, audio call, internet access,
and other signals. So, there is no need to
install multiple cables for various tasks.
Fiber optic cables are much cheaper than metal
wires, so economically it is a good decision to
install optic cable. It is safer for people
to install optic wires because it is impossible
to steal data through these cables. If someone
even tries to cut into the wires to connect the
signal, the signal will get lost. So, these
cables are the best way to protect the data
against cybercrime.

Fiber optic cables were designed very smartly and
carefully. Before inventing this technology there
was not one thing that can use light to their
advantage. But because of physicist Narinder
Singh Kapany, fiber optic became the first thing
to use the speed of light for data transition.
That is why the threads are made of glass to help
the light travel through the cable by reflecting.
But in case the light signal comes out of the
core of the thread there is also another layer of
glass, called cladding to hold that light
inwards. But it does not end there, because there
are two kinds of the core to fulfilling different
purposes. There is single-mode fiber and
multi-mode fiber. Single mode fiber basically
has a small core for the light beam to pass and
in this fiber, the light travels in a straight
line. This fiber cable is able to send the signal
long distance and that is why it is used in cable
TV connections, internet connection,
telecommunication, and other long-distance
connections. Multi-mode fiber cables have a wide
core, so the light travels by bouncing off on the
walls. These cables are not able to transmit
signal for far away and that is why it is used in
local and corporate places. There is still a lot
of room for this technology to grow and we are
going to witness a lot of development. We will
just have to wait and see.
