What is Scoliosis Surgery | Dr Jwalant Mehta

Description:

Scoliosis is a neuro-muscular condition in which a patient’s spine in the back is curved sideways at an abnormal angle and may also undergo rotation as the condition progresses. The angle of the curve varies based on the severity of the condition but if the angle is more than 10 degree, it is considered as Scoliosis. – PowerPoint PPT presentation

About Mehta Spine
  • Mehta Spine represents a state of the art,
evidence based practice in the treatment of
spinal problems. Our values encompass safety,
transparency, high quality of care and
documentation of outcomes of the treatment.
  • Choosing the right surgeon is the single most
important step in the quest for successful
treatment. Though not everyone needs surgery, we
believe that an understanding of the problem
helps us in individualising the treatment.
  • Discussions around the natural history of the
condition and obtaining the correct scans leads
to the appreciation of the available treatment
options. This provides a foundation of a good
    outcome.
  • Mr Jwalant S Mehta is a consultant spinal surgeon
specialising in spinal deformity corrections and
treatment of all spinal conditions. His is based
in Birmingham at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital
    and the Birmingham Childrens Hospital.
Additionally, he has practising privileges with
    the BMI and Spire groups

What is Scoliosis Surgery
Treatments Scoliosis can affect anyone from a
baby to an adult, but it often appears in
children aged 10-14. The effects are mild in most
children, as the curve corrects itself with the
help of physiotherapy and bracing. But some of
the children may develop spine deformities that
continue to grow severe, as they grow making
bracing infeasible or ineffective. Surgical
Treatment for Scoliosis is the recommended option
as it straightens the curve significantly, stops
the curve from growing. Heres our consultant
Spinal Surgeon, Mr. Jwalant S Mehta discussing
the surgical procedure - Scoliosis Correction
Surgery for Adolescents and Adults.
