Traffic Police Duty
2
Understanding the Importance of Traffic Police
Duty
The importance of traffic police duty needs to be
understood by us to appreciate what they do daily
with virtually no amenities to aid them.
3
Current Scenario of the Indian Roads
  • According to the latest data, more than 400
people die, and around 6400 people sustain severe
injuries on Indian roads every single day
  • Poor traffic management, bad roads, tardy
construction work leads to such mishappenings
  • there is a lack of traffic policemen which stems
from the fact that not many people see this
    occupation as ideal

4
Why is the Training of Traffic Policemen
Necessary?
  • An essential aspect of traffic police duty is the
knowledge of different kinds of traffic
    conditions in separate areas
  • This information enables the officers on duty to
be prepared to handle oncoming traffic in an
    orderly fashion without any chaos
  • This must be complemented with a sufficient
number of officers on duty at specific locations
to manage the flow of traffic effectively.

5
The Role of IRTE in Police Training
  • One institution thats doing its part in
educating and training people about the various
aspects of traffic policy duty is the Institute
    of Road Traffic Education (IRTE)
  • IRTE has a separate wing for the training of
police personnel. They are made aware of their
responsibilities on the job such as
  • Enforcing traffic laws
  • Route management
  • Maintaining general law and order
  • Route Management
