25 Ways to Fix your Air Conditioner
31- Unplug the Unit
Air conditioners tend to get over-worked in the
summers. The heat and humidity puts pressure on
the air conditioner as the consumption levels
increase. This can cause your AC to start showing
signs of poor performance, like ineffective
heating. To fix this problem, begin by unplugging
the unit. It is dangerous to begin repairing an
electric appliance while it is plugged in.
42- Remove the Grille
The next step is to remove the grille of the unit
and unscrew the metal cover. The grille usually
has a couple of screws and spring clips. Once you
have unscrewed the cover, pull the unit towards
you and it will slide right out, exposing the
filter behind it.
53- Clean the Filter
Now, once you have the filter in front of you, it
is time to clean it! The dust and dirt stuck to
the filter is usually the cause of ineffective
cooling. Take a soft brush to clean the filter
and then use a damp cloth to carefully wipe off
any remaining dust particles. Make sure that the
cloth you use is not drenching wet but just damp
enough.
64- Use a Vacuum to clean out debri
Sometimes, using a washcloth is not enough to
completely clean out the debris. The pores of the
filter can trap fine particles which are
difficult to remove. If you are facing such a
problem, use a vacuum cleaner with a small nozzle
to clean the filter.
75- Lubricate and Reassemble
After properly cleaning the filter and the coil
fins, it is time to reassemble all the parts of
the unit. As the machines tend to overheat by
wear and tear, it is a good practice to lubricate
the items before you patch everything together.
When there would be reduced friction between the
parts of the unit, it would be able to function
better.
