Diabetic Retinopathy
  • The back of the eye is covered by membrane is
called as retina. And that retina is highly
    sensitive to light.
  • It mainly converts any type of light which hits
the eye into signal and it can be interpreted by
the brain. This process leads to produce visual
images and this is how eye sight functions in the
    human eye.
  • Diabetic retinopathy causes to damage the blood
vessels within the retinal tissue, causing them
to leak fluid and distort vision.

6
  • There are two types of Diabetic Retinopathy (DR)
  • Non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR)
  • Proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR)

7
Proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR)
  • PDR is the most advanced stage of diabetic
retinopathy and Due to PDR, formation of new
abnormal blood vessels in the retina takes place.

8
Non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR)
  • This is the mild form of DR (diabetic
retinopathy) and it is usually symptomless or it
    doesnt show any symptoms.

9
Fast facts on Diabetic Retinopathy
  • Diabetic retinopathy (DR) damages blood vessel in
the retina that happens due to result of
    diabetes.
  • It is the main cause of blindness in the
    Population
  • Symptoms contain difficulty in seeing colors,
blurred vision floaters, and even total loss of
    vision.
  • People suffering from diabetes should check their
vision at least once annually to rule out DR.
  • There are retinal surgeries that can give relief
from DR symptoms, but managing early symptoms and
controlling diabetes are the most effective ways
    to prevent Diabetic Retinopathy.

10
Symptoms
  • Diabetic retinopathy typically does not show any
    symptoms during the initial stages.
  • When the condition reaches to an advanced stage
    then symptoms become noticeable.
  • On occasion, a sudden and complete loss of vision
    is the only detectable symptom

11
Symptoms and signs of DR (diabetic retinopathy)
may contain
  • Blurred or foggy vision
  • The impairment of color vision
  • Transparent or floaters and dark strings and
colorless spots that floats in the affected
    individual's field of vision
  • Presence of streaks or patches that leads to
    block the person's vision
  • Poor night vision
  • sudden and total loss of vision

12
  • Diabetic Retinopathy mostly affects both eyes.
  • It is crucial to take care that the risk of
    vision loss is minimal.
  • By attending every eye examination scheduled by
their doctor is the only way to prevent Diabetic
Retinopathy for people who are suffering from
    diabetes
