1
Factors Associated with Cord Blood IgE Levels
  • The IgE is the short form of Immunoglobulin E
which are antibiotics produced by the immune
    system.
  • In case if a person has come in contact with any
allergen and is suffering from allergy then
Immunoglobulin E (lgE) antibodies are produced by
our immune system to tackle the challenges.
  • Further the role of these antibodies is to reach
the targeted cells that are responsible for
    allergic reactions.

2
Factors Associated with Cord Blood IgE Levels
  • The quantity of lgE antibodies is small in our
blood but in case if these are found in higher
quantity then that indicates that our body is
    overreacting to allergens.
  • Allergic disorders be best predicted by checking
the lgE levels in the cord blood of any child.
  • Its yet not certain how the fetal
characteristics of mother or father will affect
    the marker.

3
Factors Associated with Cord Blood IgE Levels
  • The epidemiologic data suggests that there has
been an increased prevalence of atopy in recent
    decades.
  • Our tendency to cause allergic diseases in our
body is what we call as Atopy.
  • The gestational period is the time where the
development of immune system and atopy
    predisposition is initiated.
  • Mostly in the earlier phases of your life, atopic
    diseases will be cured.

4
Factors Associated with Cord Blood IgE Levels
  • Due to fatal effects and the above-mentioned
facts people are getting more aware about atopic
disorders and studies are taking place on the
methods for prevention of this disorder.
  • Best treatment is only possible if disease is
    detected in early stage.
  • Disease can be best cured only if you are able to
recognize the symptoms in its early stage and
    disease is diagnosed.

5
Factors Associated with Cord Blood IgE Levels
  • Normally in the 11th week of gestation period lgE
starts to appear in cord blood which is secreted
    by fetus.
  • According to experts the lgE levels in cord blood
can become a deciding a factor in determining
atopy diseases and can be best used to identify
    this disease in newborns.
  • The lgE levels can hence prevent the high risk of
    this disease in initial phases.

6
Factors Associated with Cord Blood IgE Levels
  • Though studies are going on to check how accurate
is the prediction of atopy diseases from lgE
    levels.
  • Doctors are trying their best to check the
connection between lgE levels in umbilical cord
blood and the various factors of atopic diseases.
  • To serve the purpose there was a special research
conducted in which 181 infants and their mothers
were called for the research purpose.

7
Factors Associated with Cord Blood IgE Levels
  • The data regarding the maternal history,
demographic data, and medical history data to the
pregnant women, after that the blood samples of
the umbilical cord blood were collected for the
    study.
  • Through this research the connection between lgE
levels of cord blood and various maternal
activities like delivery type, number of
    pregnancies, pregnancy related allergies were
    found.
  • The lgE levels of mothers cord blood was also
related to the infants cord blood.

8
Factors Associated with Cord Blood IgE Levels
  • It was thus concluded that among the evaluated
factors, the presence of any kind of allergic
disorder in the mother or her family and elevated
maternal blood IgE levels are associated with
cord blood IgE of the child.
  • Maternal age, delivery type, season of birth, etc
are some other crucial predictors that can be
used for the analysis of the IgE levels of the
    cord blood.
