  • The certification for SPT is not compulsory in
    every state. Some countries would require
    certification from the Certification Board for
    Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) and
    the International Association of Healthcare
    Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM).
    With this certification, the demand of the
    individual will increase.
  • IAHCSMM offers many certification tests such as
    Certified Endoscope Reprocessor, Certified
    Instrument Specialist (CIS), and Certified
    Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST).
  • The first required certification that would be
    the CRCST other tests would be considered as
    specializations. The CRCST takes 12 education
    credits per year to renew the certification. You
    will need 400 hours of experience to take the
    certification exam.
  • CBSPD provides a certification exam, which is
    valid for 5 years. You must have the following
    qualifications
  • 6 months in the healthcare field with the
    knowledge of sterile processing activities
  • 12 months of employment (part-time or full-time)
    as an SPT
  • Completion of the course with 70 or better
  • 12 months of work in healthcare including sales
    in the sterile processing field.
