What is an IEC code registration?

• Import Export Code is a registration process that
  stands in need of persons importing or exporting
  goods and services from India. This code is
  issued by the DGFT, i.e., Directorate General of
  Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce and
  Industries, and Government of India. Import
  Export code registration India application must
  be made to the DGFT along with the required
  supporting documents. Once that application is
  submitted, DGFT will issue the IEC for the entity
  in 15-20 working days or less.
