• Drones being used to deliver packages to homes
  and businesses is probably the one way that all
  of us will have some exposure to unmanned aerial
  vehicles, or UAVs, if we dont use them
  recreationally. Public opinion about this subject
  has always been varied, but recent polls have
  suggested that many of the public do not support
  them and their use for such a purpose, but why?
  Could it be misinformation, resistance to change,
  or perhaps both?
• Drones in the media
• Its highly likely that media coverage of drones
  hasnt helped with the publics perception of
  them. When drones make the headlines, its
  usually because of something terrible that has
  happened, such as drones being flown near
  airports, or when theyre used during warfare.

• Were the media to report upon the many positive
  ways in which drones are helping the world,
  perhaps public opinion could be swayed. However,
  as it stands today, polls have shown that the
  younger generation are far more open to the use
  of drones in our daily lives, while those of 65
  years and over are more sceptical. While these
  results may be expected, those who work in the
  drone industry would certainly like to see more
  people approving of drones and their uses within
  the public.

• Governments and companies must help to educate
  the public
• There have been many changes to the safety
  aspects of drones over the years, both from the
  government and private companies, but if the
  public arent made aware of this, then its
  understandable that they remain suspicious and
  concerned about drones being used to deliver
  packages.
• Dronesbeing used in other ways
• Outside of delivery, drones tend to have a much
  more positive image, such as when they are used
  by emergency response services, or to monitor
  areas after natural disasters such as floods and
  earthquakes.

• This shows that the public are certainly open to
  drones, but perhaps cautious of them being used
  so close to home.
• If the public can learn to accept drones being
  used by delivery companies, then of course its
  good news for those companies, but it may also
  have a positive impact on the environment, since
  they can help to reduce emissions and alleviate
  congestion.
• While it may be a long time before public opinion
  moves towards accepting drones for delivering
  packages, with more insight into how drones work
  and the technology that is used in creating them,
  there is an increased chance that more people
  will warm up to the idea, and since drones arent
  set to go anywhere, anytime soon, this can only
  be a good thing.
