About Eliquis

• Apixaban (Eliquis) is a medication used in
  patients with a medical condition called atrial
  fibrillation to reduce the chance of stroke.
• It is also used in lung or vein treatment or
  avoidance of clots.

Uses of Eliquis

• Eliquis is used for managing or avoiding deep
  vein thrombosis, a disease in which the blood
  vessels of the legs develop unhealthy blood
  clots.
• Such blood clots can migrate to the lungs and can
  be trapped in the lungs blood vessel, creating a
  condition known as pulmonary embolism.
• This drug is used for many days after hip or knee
  replacement surgery while you are unable to
  walk.

How does it work?

• Eliquis is an anticoagulant, a factor Xa blocker.
• This works by reducing the blood coagulation
  ability and helps prevent the formation of

  rhythm disorder (e.g., nonvalvular atrial
  fibrillation) to avoid stroke and blood clots.

Side effects of Eliquis

• Medication can cause some unwanted effects along
  with its needed effects.
• Although not all of these side effects may exist,
  they may need medical attention if they do occur.
• Immediately check with your doctor if any of the
  following side effects occur blood in the eyes,
  blood in the urine, bleeding or dark tarry
  stools, swelling or bruised skin patches, nausea,
  constipation, blood vomiting, and diminished
  alertness.
