What is IELTS
  • IELTS, the International English Language
    Testing System having four modules (listening,
    Reading, Writing and Speaking) is conducted to
    assess the language ability of the applicant.
    IELTS is required for those who are planning to
    study or work where the English language is
    required.

Test Format
  • It has four parts Listening (30 minutes),
    Reading (60 minutes), Writing (60 minutes),
    Speaking (11-14 minutes). The Listening, Reading,
    and Writing are done on same day. The speaking
    test may be on the same day or can be a week
    before or after the other tests.

  • There are four modules in IELTS

IELTS Listening Test
  • Listening module is completely same for both
    Academic and General Training. There are total 4
    sections which further comprise of total 40
    questions. This module is of total 40 minutes,
    out of which 30 minutes are for audio, in which
    candidate has to listen to the audio and mark the
    answers on the booklet. However, 10 minutes are
    for transferring the answers on the answer sheet.

    multiple choice questions, true/false/not given,

IELTS Reading Test
  • This module is different for academic and
    general training students. In academic module
    there are total 3 passages, which are usually in
    an increasing order of difficulty. Whereas, in
    case of general training module there are 3
    sections which further might 2-3 texts. There are
    total 40 in both the cases academic and general
    training. The distinct types of questions include
    multiple choice question, true/false/not given,
    yes/ no /not given, summary completion,
    completing a flow chat or a process chart etc.

IELTS Speaking Test
  • This module remains same for academic and
    general training. It is conducted in three parts.
    PART 1 includes introductory questions which can
    be based on home, family, hobbies, friends etc.
    In PART 2, the candidate is asked to speak on a
    topic. One minute preparation time is given to
    the candidate. Furthermore, after this one minute
    preparation, candidate is required to speak on
    the topic for two minutes.

IELTS Writing Test
  • Writing module for academic and general
    training differs in terms of writing task 1. In
    academic module, task 1 is report writing. It
    includes writing a report on a bar graph, pie
    chart, table, process chart, flow chart, diagram,
    map or a picture. However, in general training it
    is a letter which can be formal, semi-formal or
    informal. The minimum word limit for academic and
    general training is minimum 150 words which can
