Wisdom teeth are the last ones to emerge. They
generally show up when an individual is in the
age group of 17 to 21 years.
4
Thus, many people lack enough space in their jaws
to accommodate the last arrivals. And when this
happens, discomforts start, leading to wisdom
teeth removal.
5
An individual undergoing such a treatment,
require taking proper care for healthy and quick
recovery. To know everything in details, continue
reading further.
6
1. Wisdom Teeth Removal Recovery Time
Although wisdom teeth removal is the most
common dental surgery and takes minimum of two
weeks for complete recovery,
7
the wound will not heal healthily unless proper
care is taken. Some surgeries will also involve
stitches and thus is imperative to be watchful.
8
During the initial 24 hours blood clots will
form, which is obvious after any surgery. In the
next 2 3 days swelling of the cheeks and mouth
will deduce.
9
If stitches were involved, now, after a week it
will be good to remove. Within 8-10 days jaw pain
and stiffness should disappear. After two week,
everything will be back to normal.
10
This is the general recovery time, which may get
elongated if due to negligence the wound gets
infected.
11
2. Wisdom Teeth Removal Aftercare
Blood clots will form once the teeth are removed
and this is essential because clotting in itself
is a healing process.
12
It not only prevents further bleeding but as well
safeguards the exposed area from infections and
allows fresh tissues to grow.
13
Thus, to assure that the blood clot is not
dislodge during its initial 24 hours, the
following precautions are vital
14
  • Brushing teeth next to the operated area should
    be avoided
  • No rinsing the mouth
  • Hot food and drinks should be evaded
  • Staying away from food that requires chewing
  • Drinking with straw, smoking and consuming
    alcohols should be avoided

15
  • The wounded area should not be touched
  • Ice should be applied on the cheek outside the
    surgery area
  • If any pain or discomfort is felt, the prescribed
    pain killer should be taken
  • Restricting all activities and taking rest, at
least for a day is helpful

16
Once 24 hours is over, rinsing the mouth with
antiseptic, several times a day and especially
after a meal, is essential.
17
3. Wisdom Teeth Removal Diet
It is also imperative to note the type of food/s
eaten after wisdom teeth are removed.
18
This is so because there are certain food which
are hard to chew or might get trapped in the
operated area, causing more pain and infection.
Examples of food that can be included
19
  • Apple puree
  • Smoothies
  • Mashed potato
  • Yogurt
  • Blended soups and broths
  • Pudding, Jell-o and ice cream
  • Cottage Cheese

20
Drinking enough of liquid (minimum 5 6 glasses)
regularly and food with heavy calories and
proteins is vital to speed up the healing.
