Approximately one-third of adults age 65 years or
older fall in their home each year resulting in
injury, long-term disability, and premature loss
of independence. By the year 2020, the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention estimates the
cost related to these kinds of injuries to be
nearly 67 billion annually. Government
statistics show that about 10,000 baby boomers
turn 65 every day. Approximately one-quarter of
todays 65-year-olds are projected to live past
90. Estimates indicate that by the year 2030, the
U.S. will be home to 71 million people over age
65. Roughly 90 of these folks want to age safely
in place.
