ATEX ASSESSMENT
  • ATEX is an acronym of the French Atmospheriques
Explosive and is the name commonly given to the
two European Directives for controlling explosive
    atmospheres
  • Directive 99/92/EC also known as ATEX 153 or
the ATEX Workplace Directive on minimum
requirements for improving the health and safety
protection of workers potentially at risk from
explosive atmospheres. It concentrates on the end
    users responsibilities.
  • Directive 2014/34/EU replaces 94/9/EC also known
as ATEX 114 or the ATEX Equipment
Directive on the approximation of the laws of
    Members States concerning equipment and
protective systems intended for use in
potentially explosive atmospheres. It focuses on
    the duties of the manufacturers.

DSEAR ASSESSMENT
  • The Dangerous Substances and Explosive
Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR) 2002 is a UK law
which came into force on the 9th December 2002
and is a combination of two European Directives,
1999/92/EC, now known as ATEX 153 directive and
98/24/EC, known as CAD, the Chemical Agents
    Directive.
  • DSEAR Assessment set minimum requirements for
the protection of workers from fire and explosion
risks related to dangerous substances and
    potentially explosive atmospheres. According to
DSEAR, all sites handling flammable materials
capable of forming a potentially explosive
    atmosphere should have adequate protection
against risks from fire, explosion and similar
events arising from dangerous substances used or
present in the workplace. From June 2015 DSEAR
also covers the risk caused by gases under
pressure and substances that are corrosive to
    metals.

HAZOP STUDY
  • The HAZOP technique was originally developed
almost 40 years ago and is now the most familiar
method to identify and manage hazards on process
    plants worldwide. Even though hazard
identification is the key focus, operability
problems should be identified to understand if
they have the possibility to result in process
    hazards.
