Title: Common Carpet Cleaning Methods Explained

1
Common Carpet Cleaning Methods Explained
2
Wet Cleaning
By the name itself, wet cleaning involves the use
of water. Steam cleaning and hot water extraction
are both wet cleaning methods of carpet cleaning.
A chemical reagent is initially applied to the
carpet to loosen hardened dirt and oil-based
substances. After which, high pressured water or
steam is applied to thoroughly remove the
chemical dirt and grime.
3
Foam Cleaning
Foam cleaning involves applying shampoo to the
carpet using a rotating brush and working it to
make a foam. It is then left to dry for about an
hour or more. It will then crystalize when dry,
with the loosened dirt particles encapsulated
into the powder crystals. The carpet is then
vacuumed and could be followed by steam cleaning.
This method is considered more environment
friendly because it leaves lesser chemical
residues. However, this is not advisable for
carpets that are heavily soiled.
4
Dry Cleaning
Dry cleaning, also called as dry powder cleaning,
does not use water. Instead, a powder consist of
detergent, solvent and a small trace of water is
sprinkled all over the carpets surface using
rotating machines. It is then left for about 15
minutes to let the powder dissolve the dirt. It
is then vacuumed together with all the dirt and
particles dislodged from the carpet fibers.
5
Bonnet Cleaning
Bonnet cleaning is usually for light cleaning and
routine maintenance. It starts with vacuuming the
carpet, followed by spraying of a chemical
solution using an electric sprayer or hand pump
to break down the dirt. The solution is then left
for a period of time. An absorbent pad or bonnet
placed on the drive block of a rotary floor
machine, is spun over the carpet surface at a
speed between 100 and 300 rpm. This will result
to increase absorption of the chemical solution
and the displacement of dirt and grime.
