Title: Consequences Of Ignoring A Court Order To Settle Child Support

1
CONSEQUENCES OF IGNORING A COURT ORDER TO SETTLE
CHILD SUPPORT
2
When two people simply cannot find common ground
anymore, divorce is a viable option. It may not
be easy to settle or to adapt to the changes, but
it is necessary for both parties to continue with
their lives. In most cases, the ones suffering
the most are children.
3

Even when going through a divorce, most couples
will get an attorney to represent their best
interests. Before the divorce is finalized, the
court will determine who will get custody of the
children. At the same time, one of the parents
will also have to provide the other with a sum
(determined by the court), known as child
support.
4
SEVERE CONSEQUENCES
If you are a parent who refused to provide your
ex-spouse with child support, and at the same
time, you ignored a court order to settle child
support, you could be facing severe consequences
for your actions. Your ex-spouse may seek legal
help and file a lawsuit against you. The court
could move against you, and take away part of
your wages (as well as additional payments for
refusing a court order to settle).
5
There are certain government agencies that could
garnish your wages, as well as
  • Prevent you from selling your properties
  • Prevent you from renewing your drivers license
  • Move to another state
  • Leave the country
  • Renew your passport

6
You Could Go To Jail
If you insulted the court or the judge or refused
to show up multiple times, the decision will be
made without you. The judge will (along with your
ex-spouse and their attorney) determine what they
will do and find a way to collect payments
previously issued. Additionally, you could go to
jail, or contempt to court. If you need help
from a knowledgeable and experienced Westlake
Village family law attorney to get the help you,
