The Cost of a Smile
  • Canadians are not unfamiliar with dental hygiene,
given that just over one-third brush their teeth
twice a day, and floss at least once a day. While
this is certainly a very important aspect of oral
care, a visit to the dentist is also very
important. About 75 of Canadians saw a dentist
in 2019, while about 22 did not, citing cost as
    the main reason.

4
  • Even with the abundance of oral care, due to age,
genetics, or accidents, people find themselves
needing to replace some or all the teeth in their
mouth. Whether it is to be able to eat solid
foods or to retain their familiar look, there are
many dental professionals offering their services
to help people with these problems.

5
  • As dentures have been around since about the 7th
century B.C.E. humans have had plenty of time to
tweak and adjust the technology. Today dental
procedures and fittings for dentures are
incredibly routine and safe. There are plenty of
denture and dentist clinics throughout Canada and
many offer superb service and quality.

6
  • Whether looking for something basic or something
top of the line and custom made, dentures come in
all shapes and sizes. Just a couple missing teeth
or an entire mouthful, denture clinics are here
to help. One quick search engine adventure and
one can find exactly what they are looking for.

7
  • Around Canada many people are on the search for
dental care that is both affordable and of high
quality. As people get older the need for
dentures and other procedures become more
necessary, and often people want to get the
service and quality that would make them smile
once again. Due to the wide range of solutions
associated with dental work, there is a wide
range of prices and treatments as well.

8
  • In Toronto, on average, a complete set of
dentures costs between 1,279 and 2,950. While
this is certainly not the only option, it really
depends what sort of dental appliance one is
seeking. For example, if someone has only lost a
single tooth, they may only need one implant.
Perhaps a person only needs upper dentures, or
lower dentures. The price can range significantly
between how much work is needed, and the quality
    and service associated with it.

9
  • While a complete set of dentures is what many
    people associate with traditional dentures,
there are also immediate dentures, partial
dentures, implant retained, and more. All of
these have different cost breakdowns, on average
    as follows

10
Immediate dentures
  • These are used in a situation where some of the
original teeth are retained and the dentures are
created around them. This can range on average
from 1,495 to 3,270. While this is more of a
challenge than traditional dentures, it does
allow the patient to retain their front teeth,
thus retaining their original smile and overall
appearance. Due to the greater challenge the
price tag is obviously a little bit higher than
traditional dentures, which replace all the
    existing teeth.

11
Partial dentures
  • In this situation, dentures can be made to fill
some gaps while retaining many of the original
teeth. This can be done if someone had a few
teeth knocked out during a particularly physical
hockey match or some other equally jarring
    accident.

12
  • Given that these can come in all shapes, sizes,
and formations, the price tag on these can range
on average anywhere between 300 to 5,000 for a
single plate, and 600 to 10,000 for a full set.
These require a great amount of customization
compared to conventional dentures, and it is
quite apparent in the price tag the amount of
work that goes into this style of device.

13
Implant-Retained dentures
  • These dentures involve a surgery in which
hardware is installed directly into the jawbone,
and on top of these securings are attached
dentures that are not made to be removed. This is
the most expensive option with a top to bottom
cost on average between 3,500 to 30,000, and
for a full set between 7,000 and 90,000, with
    the average around 34,000.

14
  • While these are some of the major options when it
comes to oral maintenance and tooth replacement,
there are many other factors that can affect the
cost of dentures and other oral-related
surgeries. This list can include tooth
    extractions, alveoloplasty (reshaping the
jawbone), insurance coverage, lab fees, dentist
    fees, and many more.

15
  • These fees can add up and should be considered
when shopping for a solution to smile at.
Fortunately, in Canada about two thirds of the
population has some form of dental insurance, and
only about one in five does not see a dentist
annually due to cost related issues. Overall
Canada has a good reputation for utilizing dental
insurance to visit dentists and other
oral-professionals, which can help lessen the
need for dentures and surgeries, but even still,
there are many options on the table for what
    people need.
