What is varicose vein ?
Have you seen those thickened veins, entangling
each other on someones legs? Are they making
your beautiful legs shabby? Well, those veins are
normally known as varicose veins. The word
varicose is derived from Latin word varix
that means twisted. Nowadays, varicose veins are
a common problem and 1 out of 2 people mostly
over the age of fifty are affected with this
condition. It is very easy to recognize varicose
veins due to their appearance. They are enlarged,
entangled, swollen and palpable on the skin
surface. Varicose veins are blue or purple in
color and are most often found on the inside the
legs and calf often. They originate from several
different systems, including the greater
saphenous vein, the short saphenous vein, the
anterior lateral branch or the high extension
branch.

Treatment procedure of EVLT

• The veins which require treatment are identified
  using ultrasound. The ultrasound gel is applied
  on your leg and a wand like transducer is moved
  over the skin. The ultrasound transducer and
  sound waves are painless.
• The surgical area of leg is cleaned and injected
  a local anesthesia and a laser fiber is inserted.
  Typically this can be inside your leg and areas
  along the veins.
• When the area of leg is numb, a small incision is
  made at the vein and a very thin tube called
  catheter is inserted into the vein. Then a thin
  laser fiber is inserted into the catheter and
  laser pulses are delivered while slowly pulling
  the laser and the catheter back out of the vein.
  The laser light pulses cause the affected vein to
  shrink and eventually shut.
• The laser fiber and catheter is removed out of
  your leg.
• The incision is bandaged in the leg. Incisions
  generally do not need stitches.

Is it painful?

• It feels like a pinch, minor discomfort or pain
  when a local anesthesia is injected into the
  skin. You might also feel some pressure on your
  leg during the procedure. Inform doctor if the
  discomfort continues for long time
