Learning Through Touch, An Exciting Way To Help
Children Excel
There is no one size fits all approach to
learning. Kids respond to a range of learning
styles. One kid might spend days with books
while another one is happiest whenever s/he's
outside. One child might love spending time in a
museum while another keeps tinkering with gadgets
at home, trying to figure out how they work. If
your child responds to touch best, then you have
a kinesthetic learner. These are kids who absorb
information best through motion, movement, and
touch. For your child to truly understand
something, s/he will need to feel it or touch it
to see it move around. How Do You Know Which
Learning Style Suits Your Child? To choose the
education that's right for your child, you need
to determine the learning style to which she
responds. When your kid says "let me see that"
but actually means that you should let him or
her hold it, then that's a good sign that you've
got a little kinesthetic learner. What Do You
Do? You can help your child learn by enrolling
him in art classes. Find out if your child's
international school in Kuala Lumpur offers those
classes, even as a part of an extracurricular
program. You'll want to offer your child modeling
clay too, over pencils and paint, as your child
will want to work with his or her hands. Don't be
surprised, too, if your child shows an
appreciation for books with pop-ups. Books with
textures or that can be petted or touched will
prove to be fascinating to your little one, too.
By offering anything that your child can hold,
or something like pattern blocks, you help your
kid internalize concepts about how the world
works. How Do You Help?
2
Get your child to practice spelling by giving him
or her magnets in the shape of letters. Your
little one will have a ton of fun moving the
letters around while coming up with words. S/he
can move those around on the fridge. Giving your
kid textured paper will also work too. Plus,
putting a stationary bike in your child's room
will also encourage exercise. That or a big and
bouncy ball that they can play with. Your child
will benefit from using rhythm to help retain and
absorb information. Beware, though, the
resulting ruckus might be too loud for you.
Suggest quieter options then. Why Does It
Matter? Knowing your child's learning style
means you know the best way through which your
child absorbs information. That's essential. If
your kid is struggling in school and having a
hard time with math, for instance, using the
right learning style will make it easier for him
or her to understand those concepts. That's
going to improve his or her learning experience
and can make math ideas even bearable and easier
to grasp because they're rendered in a way that
s/he resonates with or understands. You can use
that knowledge to figure out techniques that will
motivate your child to do better and aid his
academic success in the future.
