Dr. Roy Blackburn was born in Jacksonville,
Florida in 1958. His father was a dentist in the
navy. His mother graduated from Emory University
and was the first woman to enroll in that
University. Both his parents were also musicians.
Roy Blackburns father played the accordion and
organ. His mother played piano and violin.

When Roy Blackburn was about one year old, his
father left the navy and the family moved to West
Palm Beach, Florida. When he was about 5 years
old, his family moved to Montreal, Canada where
his father enrolled as a postgraduate student at
the University of Montreal.

They lived in Montreal for several years. Later
they moved to Savannah, Georgia. Roy Blackburns
father even wrote the Ballad of Savannah, the
official song of the city of Savannah.

After completing his 3 year residency in Internal
Medicine, Dr. Roy Blackburn then went on to enter
a second residency, Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation, at Emory University in Atlanta.
