Title: Tips To Keep Your Asthma Under Control
1 Tips To Keep Your Asthma
Under Control
2Asthma is a common chronic lung disease that
affects normal breathing, making routine physical
activities difficult or impossible for an asthma
patient.
3Although there is no cure for the condition,
individuals with asthma can live healthy, active
lives if their asthma is under control. Also, as
asthma is not preventable, self-care and taking
appropriate preventative measures is the key to
reducing the risk of asthma symptoms and the
condition getting worse.
4Asthma Symptoms and Causes
Bronchial asthma is a more common type of asthma,
with symptoms including coughing fatigue,
shortness of breath and a feeling of tightness in
the chest, and wheezing.
5Allergic asthma, nocturnal asthma, childhood
asthma, adult-onset asthma, etc. are the other
types of asthma. Different types of asthma
present different symptoms.
6Talking about causes, some of the more common
causes include genetics (having a family history
increases the chance of getting it too), viral
infections, and allergen exposure.
7Risk Factors
There can be some triggers, the most common
trigger being exposure to elements like chilly
air, respiratory infections (common cold),
airborne allergens (pollen or dust mites),
excessive physical activity, stress and anxiety,
air pollutants and irritants, gastro esophageal
reflux disease, and medications like beta
blockers, aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory
drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen.
8Preventative Measures
- Know your triggers and work towards
avoiding them - Take your asthma medication as prescribed by your
doctor - Learn how to use your inhaler properly
- Quit smoking and avoid second-hand smoke (avoid
smoking areas) - Keep fit by exercising
- Allergy-proof your environment
- Be in control of your condition, devise an asthma
action plan
