Title: Typography in Graphic Design

1
  • Typography in Graphic Design
  • Typography is everywhere. When you see posters,
brochures, logos, websites, or anything that has
text, to a smaller or larger extent, it involves
    the use of typography.
  • Graphic designers use typography to adjust the
text within the design. This helps in creating
content with a purpose. The planned use of
typefaces allows the designers to make a design
    look aesthetic and pleasing.
  • Why is it Important?
  • There are benefits to using the right kind of
typeface. First, it attracts the readers
attention and conveys a certain mood or feeling.
    This influences the readers concentration,
interest level and willingness to continue
    reading. Second, visually appealing presentation
    fonts facilitate communication and audience
engagement. From a technical viewpoint, different
font and type sizes are used to establish content
importance and functions, such as using separate
typefaces for headers, paragraphs and bullet
    points.
  • When it comes to graphic design, the right
typefaces helps to create harmony, continuity and
    simplicity.
  • Healthy Food Menu Design
  • Typography rules to follow
  • In order to understand the basics, its important
to learn typography rules that will guide you as
you improve your design. The five basic
principles of typography design or any other type
of graphic design that every designer should
    know are
  • Balance that conveys a consistent structure
  • Hierarchy that defines organization and direction
  • Contrast to emphasize highlights
  • Repetition to create consistency and familiarity
  • Alignment to present a sharp and structured image

2
  • A typeface is a design style which comprises a
myriad of characters of varying sizes and weight,
whereas a font is a graphical representation of
text character. Put simply, a typeface is a
family of related fonts, while fonts refer to
the weights, widths, and styles that constitute a
    typeface.
  • Contrast
  • Much like hierarchy, contrast helps to convey
which ideas or message you want to emphasize to
your readers. Spending some time on contrast
makes your text interesting, meaningful, and
    attention- grabbing.
  • Color
  • Text color helps a text stand out. It conveys the
tone of a brand message. A designer balances the
three components of colors value, hue, and
    saturation.
  • Alignment
  • Alignment is a crucial typography element to
unify text to give it equal size, space, and to
ensure the right distance between each element.
  • Space Between Lines
  • Typography also considers the amount of space
between lines. If lines of text do not have
enough space, tall letters will get crowded
between the letters in the line above them. This
would make text too difficult to read.
