Title: A Brief History of the Hemp Plant

1
A Brief History of the Hemp Plant
In the past years or so, the popularity of
products containing hemp derivatives has
exploded. One example of this is the CBD UK
industry, but hemp can now be found in
all sorts of products such as shampoo, drinks,
meat-alternative foods and more.
However, despite this recent boom, hemp has
actually been assisting the human race for
thousands of years. In fact, hemp is commonly
referred to as the world's first cultivated
plant! Where It All Began The available research
indicates that the Hemp plant first grew wild in
Central Asia. The Chinese had begun growing hemp
for industrial purposes since at last 2800
BC! It wasn't until the Christian era that Hemp
spread to European countries around the
Mediterranean Sea, before arriving in nearly all
other European countries by the middle Ages. In
the 1500s, Hemp made its way to South America,
then to North America around 100 years later.
The international spread of Hemp comes as no
surprise. It is very easy to grow, requiring no
artificial pesticides or fertilizers, and is
estimated to have over 250,000 uses. It can be
used for making textiles, construction materials,
befouled, food, plastic and much more. Canvases
used for painting actually get their name from
the 'Can' in Cannabis! Hemp was so vital that
Henry VIII actually made it a legal requirement
for British farmers to grow Hemp for the
fabrication of materials for the Royal
Navy. What Went Wrong? With Hemp being such an
amazing resource for the human race, you might be
wondering why it has been barely used, and even
demonized, in the past 100 years or so. Well,
the cold hard reality is that Hemp has been a
victim of corruption.
2
It is widely documented that lobbyists in the
pharmaceutical, petrochemical, coal, and timber
industries campaigned against Hemp for many
years, eventually leading to full prohibition in
the United States.
Hemp could easily replace or outperform many of
the products that these companies sold,
which obviously scared them
enough to make it
disappear. Luckily, today we are beginning to
see a return to logical thinking and embracing
how useful hemp can be. Hence the explosion in
popularity! While there is still a long way to
go in terms of restrictive regulations, there
seems to be a bright future for the plant. Hemp
extracts contain a range of compounds that can
help improve a wide range of bodily functions
and boost one's wellbeing. If you're interested
