Title: The ingredients you need to brew beer (1)
1The ingredients you need to brew beer
2Producing a delicious beer is more than mixing a
few beer brewing ingredients, or even selecting
the right flavours. You must be able to go
through the brewing process which is only
possible by researching intelligently about the
product and how it is made. And you may know that
brewing beer can be quite easy, only if done very
accurately and carefully. However, you dont
need to be a master brewer to have a basic
conversation with most of the customers whom you
will serve. Also, learning more about beer
brewing ingredients and processes will allow you
to explain and answer a customers questions
about why a beer tastes a certain way.
Nevertheless, the fundamentals of beer brewing
ingredients are always more or less the same. And
if you are reading this, you may want to know a
little more about beer brewing ingredients and
the whole process. The main ingredients required
to call it a beer are Water, malt and hops. The
German Purity Law also states that beer could
only be made from these ingredients. Producing a
delicious beer is more than mixing a few beer
brewing ingredients, or even selecting the right
flavours. You must be able to go through the
brewing process which is only possible by

3Malts Although water is the basic necessity,
Malts are perhaps the most impactful beer brewing
ingredient in beer. They are the ones who
determine part of the colour, smell, taste and
even the head of the beer. They come in many
forms, derived from malting grains including
Barely, Wheat, Oats, Rye, Corn, and
Rice. However, Barely is the most popular among
them, which provide the essential enzymes that
are needed during mashing. Due to its starch to
protein ratio, the barley husks are adequately
durable, allowing them to function as a natural
filter during cleaning.
4Water As one of the main ingredients, water
makes up 90 of your beer. It also serves as a
base for all other substances in the beer. Thats
why the composition of the water such as minerals
and TDS levels can directly impact the final
product in many ways. Even the minerals in the
water serve particular importance. In brewing
processes, only the soft and low mineral water is
used for a smooth, clean beer, whereas hard,
mineral-rich water is perfect for making hop
bitters stand out in the light beer.
5Hops Its the most expensive beer brewing
ingredient and is only needed in a small amount.
They add and enhance bitterness and aromas to a
beer. It also has a preservative effect due to
its antibacterial qualities. There are various
types of hops available today, which are divided
into three categories that indicate their
purpose. These three categories are Bitterhop,
Aromahops, and Double Target hops. Bitterhop has
a high content of alpha acids, with a rather
bitter taste and mouthfeel. Aromahops have
volatile oils, which are used to add fruity,
spicy, flowery, or resiny aromas in beers. While
Double target hops are enriched with both alpha
acids and hop aromas.
