Title: Is there any Parent Engagement System at GIIS?
1Is there any Parent Engagement System at GIIS?
As a parent of GIIS Singapore, I would say that
the school keeps the parents engaged in many
activities in many ways. In fact, sometimes it
gets too much. Let me share some of the things
they do to keep us updated My GIIS This is the
GIIS internal community portal. This platform is
an all-in-one stop for all transactions with the
parents. That includes filling in the admissions
form, submitting admissions-related documents,
payment of fees and getting report cards. The
portal has a system that also captures data of
the student, be in attendance, or body
temperature during Covid situation as well as
subject-wise grades in every level and every
grade. Parents can also look at many
announcements, businesses, queries, functions,
tasks, etc. on the portal. It acts as a bridge
between teachers and parents for all School-
related activities, as well as an easy option for
administrative activities like invoicing,
transport etc. Parent-Teacher Meetings Parents
get to meet teachers face to face during the PTM
which happen each term at least once. Class
teachers and subject-wise teachers are available
to discuss the progress of each student with
parents and give insights into the way forward.
If my child is showing progress, I am told about
it, while if my child is dropping scores in
academics or non-academic activities, I am told
how to fix the issue. Any special talent my
child may have is also brought to my notice here,
and teachers are usually quite supportive of the
student and encourage us to be supportive as
well. Parent Ambassador programme
2- Open communication between parents and the school
is an essential part of student progress - a
practice that it sustains on a regular basis. The
Singapore school recognise the importance of
effective parent-teacher-student communication
plays in helping students achieve their truest
potential and how much it contributes to their
overall development. Under the ambassador
programme, they invite a select group of parents
to coffee mornings or other get-togethers, and
spend time listening to parents views on many
points of contention. Parents voice their
concerns openly, and most likely the school
implements ideas that are good. - Events
- The school holds a lot of events throughout the
year. In Covid times too, they have held events
for engagement and bond-building between us and
our children. There were activities like the
Virtual Cook-off competition, there was Family
Jhankaar and then there are online sports
activities. Parents are also sent invitations to
all school events which are broadcast live on
Facebook or other social media channels. - Other Modes of Communication Includes
- One-on-One Meetings on Request
- Weekly Class Updates
- Orientation Sessions
