  • What is a cavity?
  • Cavities meaning - It is the damaged area on the
hard layer of teeth. If you've just been to the
dentist and have been told you need a tooth decay
    treatment.
  • A cavity is a hole on the surface of the tooth.
That doesn't sound too bad, but getting rid of
tooth decay is more than just filling a hole in a
    tooth.
  • There are three types of cavity
  • Pit and Fissure Cavities
  • Smooth Surface Cavities
  • Root Cavities
  • All three of them occur at different places of
teeth. Tooth decay is not caused by the bacteria
themselves, but by the acid that they produce.
The acid can soften the enamel, creating an
increasingly deepening hole. I want to repeat the
concept that a cavity is progressive. That's what
    matters.
  • Tooth decay starts small but affects more and
more parts of the tooth if it is not
treated. Caries is initially invisible to a
layperson. But if it lasts long enough, it can
break the entire tooth and cause pain that brings
    a person to their knees.

Be aware of your food When it comes to dental
caries, two factors increase your risk. One is
the amount of sugar in our diet and the second is
how sticky the foods we eat are.  Sugar
increases the acid production of bacteria, and
the stickiness of the food makes it sit longer
than ideal on the tooth. If you eat these types
of foods, be sure to brush or at least rinse with
water shortly after to wash the risky foods off
your teeth. Ask your dentist about prescription
toothpaste Talking to your dentist is very
important about your dental care
habits.  Bacteria cannot harm teeth in the
presence of fluoride. Fluoride blocks an
important stage of bacterial metabolism. Also,
fluoride is a double bonus from tooth decay. It
also acts on the remineralization of the enamel
structure. Use over-the-counter fluoride
toothpaste or ask your dentist about prescription
fluoride toothpaste.
4
Use a fluoride mouthwash every day Fluoride is
the best we have for reducing tooth decay and
remineralizing it. And yes, there are many people
against fluoride.  But at this point, studies do
not support fluoride as a significant risk to the
cavity, and the CDC supports fluoride
use.  Rinsing with a fluoride mouthwash has been
shown to help get rid of tooth decay and prevent
tooth decay from forming.
Chew sugar-free gum Chewing sugar-free gum after
meals has been shown in studies to help reduce
the risk of tooth decay and even help
remineralize tooth enamel.  The gums act as a
mechanical cleaning mechanism to rid the teeth of
food particles, raise the pH of the mouth, and
increase the flow of saliva, all of which help to
effectively wash teeth and create an environment
that can strengthen tooth enamel.
5
Make sure you have a dry mouth You have no idea
how much your saliva is doing for you. It is the
body's natural flushing cycle for the teeth. And
that's not all. Saliva is the body's first line
of defense against many diseases.  Saliva
buffers the pH of the mouth by diluting harmful
acid on the teeth, and it contains antibodies
that help fight off disease. The main causes of
dry mouth Drugs, alcohol, and many prescription
drugs are the most common causes of dry mouth If
you fall into one of these higher-risk
categories, try drinking more water throughout
the day and try to make up for this by rinsing
your mouth more often. As a result, the teeth are
rinsed out periodically, and the pH value of the
mouth is buffered throughout the day.
