HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR MEDICARE WHEN I TURN
65 CLEVER CARE HEALTH PLAN
2
Theres some good news for those turning 65
and collecting the Railroad Retirement Board or
Social Security retirement benefits. You will be
automatically enrolled in Medicare Part A
(hospital insurance) and Medicare part B
(medical insurance). But the enrollment occurs
only if one signs for Medicare Part B when you
are signing up for retirement benefits.
In case you live anywhere outside the states of
the US or DC, like Puerto Rico, you will be
enrolled in Medicare Part A. But there is one
catch, though You need to register in Medicare
Part B manually.
3
You can easily enroll in Medicare coverage plans
through an online medium. And with growing
technological reach, the numbers of
people registering through online modes
are increasing drastically. In 2018, over 16 of
people enrolled in Medicare coverage using an
online medium. In comparison, those who enrolled
in Medicare through online mode in 2017 were
only 10. According to the study, nearly 60
more people in 2018 used eHealths online
enrollment than in 2017.
ENROLLING IN MEDICARE PLANS THROUGH ONLINE
MODES
4
WHAT IS THE MEDICARE INITIAL ENROLLMENT PERIOD?
While registering in Medicare Part A is an
automatic process for most, certain situations do
not allow so. You need to manually enroll in
Medicare Part A or Part B through the Initial
Enrollment Period (IEP) in these situations.
Another chance you get to register manually is
during a seven-month time starting three months
earlier to when one turns 65. Or, the period
includes the month that includes your 65th
birthday and ends three months after your
birthday.
5
You can trust us to meet your needs right here
in the metro.
6
YOU CAN REGISTER IN MEDICARE WHEN YOU ARE IN
YOUR INITIAL ENROLLMENT PERIOD IF
If you are ineligible for retirement benefits one
gets from Railroad Retirement Board or Social
Security, you wont be enrolled in the
  • Original Medicare automatically. But you do get a
    chance to sign up for
  • Medicare Part A or Part B or both when your IEP
is ongoing. But on the downside, you might not
get Medicare Part A that is premium-free. On top
of it, your work period and duration of Medicare
tax payment will decide your monthly Part A
premium cost. And you would still need to pay a
    premium of Medicare Part B.

YOU DIDNT QUALIFY FOR RETIREMENT BENEFITS
7
YOU DONT RECEIVE ANY RETIREMENT BENEFITS
If you are going to turn 65 soon and are yet to
receive retirement benefits, you are allowed to
sign up for Medicare Part A or Part B when you
are in IEP. There is even an option available to
enroll in Medicare alone and get your retirement
benefits later if you wish to delay your Social
Security or Railroad Retirement Board benefits
after 65.
