Title: In Vitro Toxicity Testing

1
Contract Research Organizations Offering In
Vitro Toxicity Testing
2
  • Toxicity testing is an essential activity for
    many organizations developing new products
designed to be sold into consumer markets.
  • Pharmaceutical, chemical, cosmetic, food
additive, and medical device companies are just a
few organizations that run extensive toxicity
testing programs to ensure their products are
    safe for the general public.

3
  • Companies operating toxicity testing programs
often run in vivo studies (animal testing) and in
vitro studies (cell or tissue-based testing).
  • Because of increasing pressure from global
    regulatory organizations, negative press
associated with animal studies, and the
relatively low cost of in vitro models over
traditional animal models, more and more
companies are adding in vitro toxicity testing to
    their new product discovery pipeline.
  • Due to the increasing demand for in
vitro toxicity testing research services, a large
number of new contract research organizations
(CROs) have appeared over the last five to ten
years offering in vitro testing services.
