Implementing a BOT Model Step-by-Step Guide
2
BOT Model Definition
  • Nowadays, the Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT)
model has become a very common buzz in the field
of information technology. Numerous large and
medium-sized companies in both the governmental
and private sectors are choosing this attractive
    model to implement.
  • Let's have a look at the timeframe and major
stages of the BOT model and also the step-by-step
guide on how to implement the BOT scheme in
    organizations.

3
An Overview of BOT Model Stages
  • The BOT scheme consists of three main stages. The
details of those three major stages from the
    information technology perspective are as
    mentioned below
  • Build This is the stage that deals with the
pre-development and development phases of a
project. In this phase, the planning,
fundraising, and other matters related to
    implementation are dealt with.
  • Operate Operate stage comes into play into the
main concession period in which the service
provider operates the project for a certain
period to earn a return on investment (RIO).
  • Transfer Transfer is the last stage of the BOT
Model of developing an IT infrastructure. In this
stage, the entire resource developed by the
concerned BOT vendor is transferred to the
    principal client.

4
BOT Model Implementation Timeframe
  • Normally, the BOT contracts are made for
long-term projects in numerous industries but in
information technology, the frameworks for the
implementation of BOT contracts may vary from
just one year to 3 years based on the type, size,
    and requirements of the project.
  • The first step after agreeing on a BOT project
principal entity and service provider, the
following steps would be taken to implement and
hand over the IT infrastructure to the principal.

BOT Model Stages
  • Finding workspace This process may take within
    2 to 3 weeks
  • Hiring administrative staff It will take about
    2 to 3 weeks
  • Hiring and onboarding technical team This
process of hiring a technical team may take about
    5 to 6 weeks
  • Aligning and tasking of the team The time to
align and assign initial tasks may vary from
project to project based on different factors
like requirements, type, size, methodology, and
numerous others. It may take 3 to 4 weeks to sync
the entire team with the tasks.
  • Operating and monitoring This process may
include numerous activities related to existing
and future tasks, which will be accomplished by
the client before handing over the entire
functional infrastructure and human resources to
the principal entity. This may take about one
    year or so.
  • Transferring infrastructure This is the last
stage, in which the entire human resource team,
infrastructure, and other resources of the BOT
outsourcing model are legally transferred to the
principal organization. This may take 3 to 4
    weeks.
