How to repair alloy wheels yourself
  • Careless driving and many other factors are the
enemies of alloy wheels. However, there are
simple solutions to fix all those scrapes and
gouges. In order to repair those issues
perfectly, you dont need to remove the wheels of
the car. You just need to find all the needed
tools and products suitable for your repair
project. Before calling the specialists for Car
Paint Scratch Repair, we advise you to go to your
local automotive accessory supply store in order
to buy the needed products and try to do the
project yourself.  You can follow these 8 steps
and start repairing scraped up wheels and rims in
    no time at all.

5
1. Sand Down The Scratched Wheel Surface
  • Wet/dry sandpaper for automotive finishing to
sand the surface of the scratches and scrapes on
the rims. By roughly going over the entire area,
you can easily repair it. We also offer you to
use a sponge and soapy water solution.

6
2. Start Treating More Heavily Damaged Areas
  • First of all, select deeper gouges or dents.
Choose some polyester sand finishing filler once
you have identified those scratched area. This
finishing filler is such a type of product that
is designed for the deeper scratches and gouges
and it is used on alloy rims. Substitute surface
is created by this filler and it can be easily
    sanded and painted.
  • Note that the surface of the filler doesnt need
to be excellent in this stage. It requires to
level out the more damaged space on the rim. So
when you finish DIY project, the scratches will
not be visible at all because the fresh pain will
cover them in an amazing way. There are many
common types that only need up to 30 minutes to
dry. In order to check where the auto filler is
dry or not, simple use your fingernail. If there
is a mark on the surface after touching it, then
it means that the auto filler is not dry. Thus,
it requires some more time to dry.

7
3. Sand The Repaired Areas Of The Rims
  • This is the next step but it should be done when
the sand finishing filler has dried. The area
that was covered with filler should be buffed so
that it will become rough enough and the paint
will adhere to it properly. We offer you to start
with a 80 grit course sandpaper. The next step
includes going over the surface with a finer 180
grit sandpaper. After this step, the areas that
have been repaired will be prepared for the
    primer.

4. Prepare The Wheel For The First Coat
  • You need to scuff the whole surface of the wheel
in order to have it be prepared for the first
layer of primer. You can use Scotch-Brite
automotive abrasive pads which are perfect
especially for collision repair. We offer you to
use it by passing over the whole surface. We
dont advise you to opt for a spot repair because
the pain will be visible in this case. Besides,
it can chip away through time. Use the abrasive
pad around the edge of the rim, inside the valve
hole, bolt holes as well as the sides of all
spokes. Once you notice the whole surface has a
dull finish, this step can be considered to be
achieved. The next step is to clean off the dust
by using a simple micro-fiber cloth. Simply wipe
off the fine dust properly and then cover the
area with paint. Use a masking tape so that the
sidewalls of the tire, valve, lug caps and centre
cap of the rims wont be painted.

5. Apply The First Primer Coat
  • There where the scratches have been fixed, just
spray a thin layer of filler primer all places.
This will help smooth out the repaired alloy and
filler. Let the filler primer sit for 10 minutes
and jump to applying the second coat. This also
provides an extra protection because your car
    becomes rust-resistant.

10
6. Go for the Second Primer Coat
  • Apply the second coat after you see the first
layer has dried. When you are fully satisfied,
    start the next process.

11
7. Apply the Silver Coat
  • Spray the wheel rim by using the metallic paint.
If you use a specialized auto paint, you will
create a shiny finish. Make sure you spray in all
    the crannies.

12
8. Finish The Repair With A Layer Of Clear Coat
  • We advise you to use SprayMax 2K clear coat as it
ensures high-resistance to outdoor elements. Add
as many layers as you want to avoid running. You
can also spray the clear coat in quick strokes.
  • When everything is done, let the clear pain get
dry. Then remove the masking tape and enjoy the
    beautiful appearance of your vehicle.
