1
Common myths surrounding cough and dry throat.
2
  • Myth 1- Coughs are always contagious
  • The contagiousness of a cough depends on whether
the particular cough is caused by an infection or
not. If the reason for dry throat and khansi is a
viral or bacterial infection, then it may be
contagious. However, if it is caused by
allergies, dust, asthma etc. then it is not at
    all contagious.

  • Myth 2- There are many different variations of
    cough
  • There are no different variations of cough,
except just two. You can either have a dry cough
or a wet cough. In case of dry cough, you will
feel a dry throat too, and that is mostly due to
viral infections, dust and dry mouth. A wet cough
is due to mucus and phlegm.

  • Myth 3- All kind of coughs are caused by
    infections
  • Infectious cough is often added up with cold,
flu, fever, headaches. It is continuous and
highly affects your immune system. However, not
all coughs are infectious. We often have the
occasional cough, or a tingling in our throat
that becomes a cough. This isnt necessarily
caused by an infection. Non-infectious causes
also include cough as a side-effect of heavy
medicine, asthma, nasal drip and allergies.

  • Myth 4- Hot foods/soup can cure a cough
  • People suffering from khansi and cold often
produce excess mucus that leads to additional
cough. For relief, it is good to drink warm
liquids and warm foods that are healthy for you
because they soothe the irritation of the mucus
and reduce coughing. However, warm foods are just
a temporary escape. They do not cure the cough.

6
  • Myth 5- Antibiotics are necessary in case of
    cough.
  • Cough is either minor or even major. In case of
severe cold, it is imperative to visit a doctor
and get the needed antibiotics to help heal your
system. However, in case of minor cold and
khansi, the usage of antibiotics is not necessary
since the beginning itself. It is important to
rather use ayurvedic medicines and syrups that
    are natural yet equally effective.
