Greg DeAngelo has examined the effect of police
on roadway safety. Specifically, he has examined
the effect of a large exogenous shock to the
Oregon State Police on roadway fatalities,
finding that police reductions significantly
increased roadway fatalities.

DeAngelo has also examined the effect of fracking
on sexually transmitted diseases, finding that
increased fracking lead to a higher transmission
of STI's. This was especially prevalent in
locations with high male to female populations.

Professor DeAngelo examined the effect of the
introduction of Craigslist's sex services section
on sexual violence against women. His research
found that Craigslist's online platform
significantly reduced female rapes and homicides.
DeAngelo's research has examined the effect of
judicial elections on case outcomes. We
investigate judicial elections impact on
criminal case handling. We argue that judges face
a trade-off between criminal and civil cases when
exerting time and effort. During reelection, when
the importance of good decision-making is
heightened, if civil cases are sufficiently more
important, then error rates in criminal cases
increase.
