What is a Super Visa?

• The Canada Immigration and Citizenship introduced
  a new visa for family reunification on 1st
  December 2011 called Super Visa. It is given to
  parents and grandparents of the citizens and
  permanent residents of Canada who want to visit
  the country. It is a multi-entry visa valid for
  10 years and will allow the applicant to remain
  in Canada for up to 2 years at a time.

What is a Super Visa Medical Insurance?

• According to Canada Immigration and Citizenship,
  the applicant must buy Super Visa Medical
  Insurance from a Canadian insurance company. It
  is a primary and mandatory requirement and needs
  to be sent along with the application. The
  medical insurance is designed to cover any
  unexpected medical emergencies, from the expenses
  of a walk-in clinic near you to any
  hospitalization services for severe health
  conditions in Canada. 
• It is the new requirement by the Canadian
  government for parents and grandparents, and the
  insurance company will pay for all the data
  collection themselves. While flying on Canadian
  Super Visa, the applicant must submit the proof
  of purchase of private medical insurance from a
  Canadian insurance company.

Medical Insurance?

• The insurance company has to be a Candian
  insurance company
• The coverage amount has to be 100000 or more
• The policy must be valid for a minimum duration
  of 1 year.
• The policy should consist of healthcare,
  hospitalization and repatriation benefits.
• However, the applicant must buy medical insurance
  for a Super Visa every time he/she enters Canada.

What if the applicant already has a pre-existing
medical condition?

• If the applicant has a pre-existing medical
  condition, the applicant must complete a health
  questionnaire with the insurance company before
  buying medical insurance for Super Visa. Based on
  the outcome of the health questionnaire,
  insurance companies decide whether they will
  cover the pre-existing health conditions or not
  and on what basis. Also, insurance companies may
  ask to pay higher premiums for severe medical
  conditions like heart disease and diabetes.

What happens if the applicant gets rejected for
the visa or they return home early?

• If the Super Visa is denied for the applicant,
  the insurance companies refund 100 of all the
  premiums paid. And in case the applicant returns
  home early, the insurance company will reimburse
  a partial amount of the premiums paid subject to
  there are no claims made, and an administration
  charge will apply.

• If you have a higher deductible, then the
  insurance company will allow some savings on your
  premiums. The higher the deductible, the more the
  savings (Deductible is an amount that the
  applicant pays out of their pocket when a claim
  occurs).

  he/she can cut off some premiums.
