Title: Clinical Trials And Research Studies

1
All About Clinical ResearchAnd Trials!!
2
  • Clinical trials are recognized as critical in the
understanding and treatment of diseases ranging
from cancer and heart disease to infectious and
transmitted disorders worldwide and in a variety
    of populations.
  • It is simple to say that clinical research and
development are essential. But taking an in-depth
look at it can encourage more people to
participate. It is an investigation to collect
information and facts on a particular subject. As
we all know, it uses research with human
participants and adds to overall medical
    knowledge.
  • It is not that every time patients will benefit
from studies, but participants can also benefit
    themselves.

3
  • Why does HSS do Research?
  • They do it to gain valuable information to help
the medical community. Research at HSS can help
    to
  • Find out what causes a disease and how it affects
    the sufferer.
  • Find efficient therapies to help individuals who
are affected live a better life.
  • Determine if a medication that is prescribed for
one condition can also be used to treat another.

4
  • Phases Of Clinical Trials
  • Clinical trials are used to assess the safety and
efficacy of volunteers who are chosen at random.
These trials are generally blinded because the
medical study team is unaware of the treatment
participants are receiving. Vast knowledge and
sound data must be obtained to get approval from
the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for
    testing in humans.
  • Clinical trials take place in a total of four
    phases. These are
  • Phase 1 It comprises 20-100 participants
  • Phase 2 It comprises approximately 200
    participants
  • Phase 3 It comprises thousands of patients
    internationally
  • Phase 4 It focuses on continued monitoring of
adverse reactions and side effects in patients.

5
  • Participating in Clinical Research
  • Every clinical study has a research plan,
protocol, and a list of guidelines. Everything is
included in the protocol, from the purpose of the
study to the results from the previous phases.
  • Who conducts clinical studies?
  • A Principal Investigator will be appointed,
usually a physician but could also be a social
worker or another member of the clinical research
and development team. The study team may include
    physicians, nurses, research coordinators, social
    workers, pharmacists, and other healthcare
    professionals.

6
Who funds clinical studies?
  • Several different places can fund clinical
studies. A clinical study might be funded
    directly by pharmaceutical corporations or
    indirectly through organizations and charities.
The federal government can also support clinical
trials through organizations like the National
Institute of Health (NIH). Healthcare providers
and philanthropists can also fund clinical
    studies.
