Title: Grinding Wheel vs Cut-off Wheel

Grinding wheels are thicker than a cut-off wheel.
It is ideal to have a size 4-1/2" x 1/8" of the
disc. Grinding discs with abrasive coatings are
usually at least 1/4" thick. The thin cutting
discs cannot withstand considerable sideload
without breaking, whereas the thicker discs may
withstand significant force.

Cut-off Wheels vs. Grinding Wheels
The main differences between Cut Off discs vs
Grinding discs are
Depending on the type of metal youre cutting,
the ideal choice of cutting wheels will be
different. When compared to smaller, more
flexible bits of metal, thick sheets of metal
require more powerful cutting and grinding wheels.
Cut-off wheels are used for cutting on the
peripheral surface. Why?
  • Cut-off wheels are thin by design, and their
affecting quality is unsuitable for side cutting.
  • The fiberglass reinforcing adds strength to the
wheel. It may be damaged if you use the side of
the wheel. This weakens the wheel and puts it at
    risk of breaking.
