3ABOUT UNIVERSITY
Established in 1987, Indira Gandhi Krishi
Vishwavidyalaya is an autonomous, not-for-profit,
public University. Moreover, it sits in the "Rice
Bowl of India" Chhattisgarh. Moreover, the
college encourages research in agriculture. Apart
from this, IGKV emphasis the transfer of new
technology to the masses. In the same vein, the
key reason is to improve the socio-economic
status of rural people. Another name for this
Institution is Indira Gandhi Agricultural
University. Indira Gandhi Krishi
Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur is an agricultural
University. As a matter of fact, it is only an
agriculture University in the entire state.
Moreover, IGKV Raipur aims to educate the
tribal youth. Apart from this, the college has
the 2nd most extensive collection of rice
biodiversity in the world. But, the main goal of
Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya is to uplift
the livelihood of farmers.

5HISTORY
The history of Indira Gandhi Krishi
Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur traces its roots to the
British era. Further, an agricultural research
station named "Labhandi farm" stood at the place
of IGKV Raipur in 1903. Later in 1974, the
government named the college as Rice Research
Institute. Even so, the name itself is an
indicator of the fact that IGKV was named to
honor Mrs Indira Gandhi. As a matter of fact,
she was the 3rd Prime Minister of India.
Moreover, she was the first female PM and central
figure of Congress. Since the 1970s, the state
government of Chhattisgarh was planning to build
an agricultural University. To clarify,
agriculture is the main activity of that state.
In addition to this, rice is the lifeline of
Raipur. As a result, the state legislature
establish Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya on
20th January 1987.

Bachelors's courses in 7 constituent colleges.

(PAT) for BSc (Agri), and BSc (Horticulture).

Pre-Engineering Test (PET) for admission to BSc

international bodies.
8AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS
- Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya maintains
good ranking among the state Universities.
Besides that, the Ministry of Agriculture
conferred upon IGKV two national awards. In the
same vein, the college received National Krishi
Vigyan Kendra Award. As a matter of fact, it
competed with 579 Krishi Centres. - Likewise, IGKV Raipur, also received Fakhruddin
Ali Ahmad Award for Research and Extension. To
clarify, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya
made significant contribution in the field of
using new appropriate technologies. As a result,
the college improved the livelihood and brought
sustainability in farming of tribal farmers.
Besides that, IGKV was given SKOCH Award for
facilitating unified payment at the campus.
9INFRASTRUCTURE
Nehru Library The Nehru library, as a matter of
fact, is the regional library of Central India.
Moreover, the library has three major online
portals, namely, Springer link, CSIRO, and J-Gate
Custom Content. Further, the recourses are the
Nehru library includes, books (40279), back
volumes (6276), and reports (8609). Hostel IGKV
has separate hostels for males and females.
Moreover, there are 475 seats for men in the
constituent colleges. In the same vein, the
college reserves 367 seats for women. Women's
Complaint Cell In view of safeguarding women's
safety, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya has
a complaint cell. Apart from ensuring safety of
women, it also tackles complaints related to
harassment at the workspace.
10- Health Centre
- Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya offers the
necessary medical facilities to students,
faculty, and non-teaching staff. As a matter of
fact, they can avail the medical facilities free
of cost. Likewise, the university doesn't deducts
any extra charges in the form of fees or
expenses. - Sport Activities
- Yearly, IGKV organises an Annual Sports Meet. As
a matter of fact, the other name of this fest is
Inter College Sports Meet. To clarify, the
university divides all the colleges (Constituent
and Affiliated) in to three zones, North zone,
South zone and Central Zone. Moreover, different
activities take place in all these zones. Along
with that, TCB CARS, Bilaspur organises the North
Zone Inter College Competition. Infact, 7
colleges participated at the venue. Likewise,
SGCAS, Jagdalpur organises South Zone Inter
College competition and Central Zone Inter
College competition.
